Adelaide, Australia - December 24th, 1998|
We met Peter "Stormy" Hyde, Australia's First Accordion Maker, in Adelaide and drove out to "Braidwood", his home and studio in Aldgate, a charming village in the scenic Adelaide Hills of South Australia.
Stormy is a retired seaman who began making bellows while at sea. He "custom" builds his accordions to the buyer's specifications. Those made from the native Australian woods are unique and beautiful. You can access his web site at: http://www.accordions.com/hyde/ |

This is Richard Tonkin playing one of Stormy's instruments at the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel. "Hotel" translates to "pub" in Oz and the "Gov" is a good one. Richard has visited Austin, touring with the Aussie bush band Kelly's Revenge. He plays accordion on their "Such Is Life" CD. Richard can normally be found at the Irish session at the "Gov" on Friday night. |
